On 15th February 2023, we were deeply saddened to hear the news that Raquel Welch had passed away. Having stocked Raquel Welch wigs for more than 20 years, her story has impacted all of us at Joseph’s Wigs. We look back at her life and the incredible impact she had on wig wearers across the globe.

Who was Raquel Welch?

Born on the 5th of September 1940 in Chicago, Welch kickstarted her career as an actress with her role in the science fiction adventure film ‘Fantastic Voyage.’ From there, she landed a role in ‘One Million Years B.C’ as her character Loana, rocking a doe-skin bikini. Despite just three lines of dialogue in the film, Welch shot to fame as photos of her in the bikini took the world by a storm, turning her into an international sex symbol of the 60s.

How Did Raquel Welch Wigs Come About?

Raquel Welch was iconic in more ways than one. In fact, she became one of the biggest celebrity advocates of all time for ladies’ wigs! But how did it happen?

Whilst appearing in several notable movies and TV shows, Welch didn’t always have time to restyle her hair, so her stylist advised her to experiment with wigs. From there, she started wearing them not only on movie sets, but also out and about. Raquel Welch soon became a beauty icon, with women around the world keen to recreate her most popular hairstyles and looks.

Welch embarked on a new venture and developed a signature line of wigs with ‘HairUWear’, which she was regularly seen donning out and about. Her wigs became so successful that in the March of 2015, she accepted the role of Creative Director at HairUWear, developing a more involved position within the highly successful alternative hair company.

Raquel Welch Wigs

To this day, Raquel Welch Wigs are amongst some of the most popular around, and Joseph’s Wigs is fortunate enough to have stocked more than 100 different styles over the last 20 years.

As a wig wearer herself, Welch understood the power of a good wig, and designed a range that helps the wearer feel at their most confident, whilst delivering maximum comfort and styling freedom. Driven by versatility, the collection showcases some of the most natural looking human hair and synthetic wigs in a wide array of stunning shades and styles.

We are privileged to have seen the evolution of Raquel Welch, and the stunning creations she has come up with year after year and are saddened by the news of her passing. We will be forever grateful for all she has done for fellow wig wearers and helping thousands of women to feel their best.

For now, we will leave you with a line Welch famously said, ‘When a woman feels good about her hair, she radiates beauty and confidence.’ And we couldn’t agree more!
